Synopsis of the Movie The Lost Daughter

Leda is a center-elderly divorcée committed to her paintings as an English teacher and to her children. When her daughters depart home to be with their father in Canada, Leda anticipates a length of loneliness and longing. Instead, barely embarrassed by using the feeling, she feels liberated, as if her lifestyle has become lighter, easier.

She makes a decision to take a holiday by the ocean, in a small coastal city in southern Italy. But after some days of calm and quiet, matters take a menacing flip. Leda encounters a circle of relatives whose brash presence proves unsettling, at times even threatening.

When a small, reputedly meaningless occasion occurs, Leda is crushed by reminiscences of the difficult, unconventional picks she made as a mother and their outcomes for herself and her circle of relatives. The seemingly serene story of a lady’s first-class rediscovery of herself soon turns into the story of a ferocious confrontation with an unsettled past.-[IMDb]
